Athens, May 19, 2021 – In the context of the online press conference organized by NEA PASEGES, the Panhellenic Confederation of Associations of Agricultural Cooperatives, on Wednesday, May 19, the program “Small Treasures of Europe” was presented. The three-year program aims to promote Greek, authentic, cooperative P.D.O. (Protected Designation of Origin) and P.G.Ι. (Protected Geographical Indication) products, belonging to the large family of recognized European products.
The cooperative P.D.O. and P.G.I. products originate from a specific place, region or rarely country. Their quality characteristics and reputation are due to the peculiarities of the local nature, the character of the specific geographical environment, but also the people who produce them with specific processes. The European Union recognizes the diversity of places, methods, traditions and geographical features. Because it is all these elements that affect the production of agricultural products. At the same time, it protects their production process and gives every consumer the opportunity to get to know them.
With the “Small Treasures of Europe” promotion program, with the support of the European Commission and the slogan “Enjoy it’s from Europe”, we have the opportunity to get to know better the P.D.O. and P.G.I. products and to learn more about the agricultural cooperatives across Greece that produce them.
The small treasures that participate in the program, constitute a special Greek range of feta graviera, xinomyzithra, olive oil, fava, tomataki, Corinthian raisin, potato and wines from Agrinio, Aigio, Kalavrita, Nemea, Corinthia, Avia and Sterna Messinias, Zakros, Koutsouras, and Mylopotamos of Crete, Naxos and Santorini – traditional high quality products from the production cooperatives of each locality.
