A 2nd press conference organised by the “Little Treasures of Europe” took place at the Omicron I Room of the Athenaum Intercontinental Hotel and was followed by a dinner in the hotel restaurant Zoe. (Athens, 4/4/2023).

The press conference was met with great success and recognition and had a high attendance. The PDO (Protected Designation of Origin) and PGI (Protected Geographical Indication) products that are participating in NEA PASEGES’S (Greek Confederation of Unions of Agricultural Cooperatives) program, “Little Treasures of Europe”, which are produced by Greek co-ops, were hosted at the Omicron I Room of the Athenaum Intercontinental Hotel,

The journalists, bloggers and other guests were impressed by the speeches, as well as the meal that followed, which was built around Greek PDO & PGI products.

The evening’s protagonists were PDO feta, PDO graviera of Naxos and Crete, PDO xinomyzithra of Crete, PDO olive oil of Mylopotamos and Siteia (from the Lasithi regional unit of Crete), PDO olive oil from Kalamata, PDO Corinthian raisin Vostitsa, PGI potato from Naxos, PDO Assyrtiko wine from Santorini, PDO fava (yellow split peas) from Santorini, tomataki (cherry tomatoes) from Santorini, and last but not least, PDO Agiorgitiko wine from Nemea.

The attendees praised the uniqueness of taste and the high quality of each and every one of these products. Moreover, they appreciated the effort and care involved in their production, as well as the importance of preserving the traditional production methods. The awareness around these products was raised overall and there was special attention given to the rules and regulations regarding all PDO &PGI products, as well as their impact on the food industry.

Altogether, it was a very successful press conference that generated a lot of interest in PDO & PGI products. The next three events that are planned, two of which will take place in Thessaloniki and one in Athens, are eagerly anticipated.

The promotional program “Little Treasures of Europe”, with the support of the European Union and the stamp “Enjoy it’s from Europe”, gives us a chance to get to know PDO & PGI products better, and learn more about co-op producers all over Greece.

More specifically, NEA PASEGES aims to spread awareness for the institution of co-ops and the development of the concept of co-ops.
