NEA PASEGES’S (Greek Confederation of Unions of Agricultural Cooperatives) program, “Little Treasures of Europe”, will be present at the largest food and beverage exhibition of Greece, Food Expo, between the 18th and 20th of March 2023.

Authentic products, with a strong identity, produced by Greek co-ops.

PDO & PGI products that are participating in NEA PASEGES’S program Little Treasures of Europe will be exhibited at the C26-D27 HALL 2 of Food Expo.

The importance of recognition for PDO & PGI products

It is highly important for a product to be officially recognised as PDO (Protected Designation of Origin) or PGI (Protected Geographical Indication).

PDO & PGI badges are used by the European Union to protect local products from imitations. They are a form of intellectual property, which guarantees that the products carrying these specific badges meet certain requirements of quality, origin, and production methods, thus protecting them from being imitated.

By recognising products as PDO & PGI, consumers can be ensured that they are purchasing authentic local products, that are produced in the defined geographical location, according to traditional methods.

Greek products that are participating in the program and have been patented as PDO & PGI belong in the following food groups: olive oils, cheeses, wines, raisins, olives, yellow split peas (“fava”), tomatoes (“tomataki”) and potatoes.

Today, more than one hundred products have been recognised as PDO or PGI in Greece, and our country holds the 5th position within the European Union.

Defined requirements of quality and origin

The promotional program “Little Treasures of Europe”, which has the support of the European Union and carries the stamp “Enjoy it’s from Europe”, gives us the opportunity to learn more about the PDO & PGI products and get informed about the Greek co-ops.

More specifically, NEA PASEGES (Greek Confederation of Unions of Agricultural Cooperatives) aims to spread awareness for the institution of co-ops and the development of the concept of co-ops.

The European Union gives the Greek consumers the opportunity to get to know the products, support them, and become their ambassadors for all the tourists that will be visiting our county.

Visit NEA PASEGES’S stand, “Little Treasures of Europe”, to get introduced to the authentic products of our country, at this year’s Food Expo (18th-20th of Match) at HALL 2 Stand C26-D27.
